Lower the Cost of Your Business Insurance Premiums

Running a business is an expensive affair — upfront costs, premises, wages and insurance all make a dent in your profits. And while insurance is crucial for your business, there are a few ways that you can reduce your premiums.

Find a professional

Firstly, it’s wise to speak to an intermediary, who will have access to a range of options and providers that you may not have come across or considered. This will ensure that you get the best price possible — insurance costs can vary wildly from provider to provider.

Pack them up

Buying your policies as a package instead of individually is a clever way of saving money. Price the policies up separately and then as a package to see how much you could save.

Too many policies

When you have more than one policy, which is normal for a business, overlaps can occur. Check that you’re not covered twice for the same thing. Read all your policies thoroughly and remove any overlaps.

All change

Businesses adapt and evolve constantly, which could mean that the items and events you covered six months ago are no longer valid. For example, you may pay to cover an office but you now work from home.

Security and safety

Adding extra security and safety measures can significantly decrease your insurance costs. Camera and alarm systems give the insurer faith that your property is unlikely to be burgled, and workplace safety technology may eliminate or reduce injury risks.

Train them up

Fewer claims will result in cheaper insurance. You need to do everything you can to mitigate risk, and that includes training up your employees in areas in which there would be a possibility of a claim. Health and safety, driving awareness, up-to-date equipment or digital training can all reduce the possibility of an event occurring which could cause a claim.

Insurance can be expensive, and it’s tempting to get the lowest premium possible. However, always make sure that any insurance you take out adequately covers your business and its risks and needs.
