You mobile phone is never far from you, and you catch up on work on your laptop while on the daily commute. You carry a bag, which contains a purse or wallet, and maybe you wear a smartwatch on your wrist. If you add all these items together, they can amount to several hundred, or even thousand, pounds.
As soon as you leave your home, your home contents protections ends, unless your cover includes personal possessions insurance or you have chosen it as an addition. Because of this, your laptop, phone, bag, watch and wallet are not covered and, if you lose them or they are damaged, you’ll have to replace them at your own cost.

Do check the claim criteria — there are certain situations in which your insurer is unlikely to pay out — for example, if you left your purse in plain view in your car and it was stolen, or you put in a claim for a device that stopped working due to wear and tear.
